Five years of Our magazine “The Counterviews” Publication
‘The Counterviews’ is proud to have completed its five years of publications. During this time, articles published, include most of the ‘Current affairs of the World’ giving prominence to the Indian events. As the name of the magazine suggests, mostly those stories were preferred that had its other side too, that were not in the full public views. The topics included were largely pertaining to Politics, Democratic/Electoral processes, Defence matters, Conflicts/Wars, International events, Radicalism/Terrorism, Religion, UN/Human Rights issues, Science & Technologies, Space Sciences and so on incl Hindi literature. When started in December 2019, the magazine was fortnightly, that was made monthly after one year. Initially the magazine was only in the PDF format that were difficult to be read on mobile sets. Hence, if was made compatible for reading on the mobile sets too as individual articles.
During these years, we were especially privileged to have included some of the articles by eminent authors, mostly belonging to defence services. The editor had taken a strong view of publishing only those articles that were supported by published/listed evidences. Covid19 period of 2020 to 2022 were very difficult. Some dirty politics were being played both at national and international levels incl those at the WHO which helped helped China to escape the culpability of the pandemic. The world also witnessed the indifference of the UN/UNSC/UNHRC towards multiple genocides being committed in Afghanistan, Yemen, Ukraine, Israel-Gaza, Sudan and several other places of conflicts. Besides, ugly face of Islamic terrorism has been on full display in several regions incl Asian, European and African continents. On the other hand, human indulgence of over exploitation of the natural resources on Earth has started menifesting in the form of Climate Changes.
Among the readers, there were some who were opposed to the publication of the stories related to politics and religious radicalism/terrorism even if having facts. The editor believes in the ethos of the 'Editors’ Guild of India' that stipulates publishing all factual stories even if it were unpleasant to some. Publishing of magazines are not to please someone, whosoever they may be. All hard facts that may have implications to the present or future, must find spaces in the magazines. Editor did recieved some occasional threats from radical individuals and groups. Some friends also suggested to avoid publishing articles that were unpleasant to the radicals. However, our aim was in the centre of our focus.
Some unhappy readers apparently belonging to the middle east and UK, had twice attacked our website www.thecounterviews.com. Last year (2023) after the publication of some articles pertaining to Britain, the website was hacked to the extent that revival was extremely difficult. That was the time when we migrated from dot (.) com to dot (.) in at www.thecounterviews.in. This did cause many difficulties esp those articles of dot com platform which were hyperlinked. This transformation also reduced our clientele readers from 101 nations to just about 52. We the publishers are not deterred by any of the above happenings. Our aim of bringing to the fore of any ‘less-told aspects’ of an story remains in focus.
