Home Ministry’s Indifference to Slanderous attacks on PM Modi and India

Worsening internal security in India esp in the name of democratic tolerance in the recent years is worrying. There are increasing evidence of many political parties and foreign hands in inciting and abetting unrests in different parts of India. There is no denying that international borders have been made more secure and Modi govt has strengthened the nation in the last 10 years. The modernized Armed Forces of India along with integrated Village Defense in the border areas both along LoC and LAC is gradually paying dividend. Similarly, on a lesser scale, various efforts of the govt have also reduced the worrying developments on the eastern international border with Bangladesh. Infiltration by civilians, insurgents and extremists had been happening unabated that were checked to some extent in the last 10 yrs. This article however, intends to focus more on the slipping internal security of India more by the indigenous elements than the external forces aiding in their nefarious acts. The main concerns of author are two: firstly, the threats on the life of Shri Narendra Modi, the most popular Prime Minister of India and secondly, deteriorating parameters of the internal security of India. Let us take the first issue of threats on the life of PM Modi.

Political Rise of Shri Narendra Modi

There is no doubt that the main reason for the rise of BJP led NDA in the Union Govt of India has unarguably been Mr Modi himself working with highest resolve for the betterment of the nation. Hailing from a poor family and having gone through the difficulties of poverty in his childhood and youth, his understanding of the problems of India must be wide-ranging with comprehensive views of the poor class. His modest works in the RSS and BJP as ordinary volunteer in the past with sole aim to serve the nation, had all ingredients of becoming the “First Sevak” initially of his state Gujrat and later the Indian Nation. Lot has been written in both print and digital media about his life and dedicated works for the nation (read “What makes Modi so special for India?”, . His dedication to redress the hardship in the lives of the Indian citizen and his special efforts in reaching out to the last person esp in the queue of the deprived and underprivileged society made him lovable by the most citizen ever. Besides, Modi govt had done so much of works for strengthening of the nation and upliftment of its nationals that made his govt very confident of securing 3rd term with landslide mandate (read “What makes Modi so confident of 370+?” https://thecounterviews.in/articles/what-makes-modi-confident-of-370-parliamentary-election-2024/) and that would have been well deserved BUT for the conspiracy hatched by his opponent political parties termed I.N.D.I.A. 

Deteriorating Parameters of Internal Security

Desperate Acts of Opposition Parties. Having received unprecedented electoral drubbings in 2014 and 2019, opposition political parties of BJP led NDA were convinced that they will not be able to defeat Modi govt in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Hence, desperation drove them to form an unnatural alliance with sole aim of defeating and unseating him (read “I-N-D-I-A of Thugs?, parts 1, 2 & 3”, https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-of-thugs-part-1/;https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-of-thugs-part-2/; and https://thecounterviews.in/articles/i-n-d-i-a-of-thugs-part-3/). However, there were more sinister acts taking places in different parts of India where abuses, disrespects and threats were being issued by various individuals serving in positions under constitutional oaths. This includes utterances by Mamata Banerjee to slap him or other politicians to harm him. There have been several members of parliament of India and State Legislative Assemblies who uttered words of abuses and dis-respects as well as threats to his life. Here comes the indifference and lapses on the part of law enforcing and security agencies as to why NSA were not slapped on the culprits to put them into jails. Several individuals having political affiliations issued threats both in person and online. Mentioned below, are some of the individuals who threatened to assassinate him:-

• Oct 2018: Urban naxals in Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha, Varavara Rao, Arun Ferriera and Vernon Gonsalvez.
• 12 Dec 22: Congress MLA Raja Pateria, from MP
• Mar 2024: Yadgir (Karnataka) SDPI-Congress worker Md Rasool Kaddare
• Apr 2024: JMM leader Nazrul Islam

The above are the incidents only of death threats but there are several instances of disrespect and verbal assaults too on the serving PM Narendra Modi. In this, many leaders of INDI-alliance were culprits incl Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. None can forget how Rahul Gandhi maligned PM Modi in 2018-19 with his slang “Chowkidar Chor Hai” for which he had to tender apology in the Supreme Court of India. He has become a habitual offender since then. Recently during electoral campaign for the Lok Sabha 2024, Congress leaders made 90-odd slanderous attacks including Rahul Gandhi’s alleged slurr “after 4th Jun 24, Modi will be chased out by people”. If people had called Sonia Gandhi a ‘Choror Chorni’ during the UPA’s raining scam period, they would have been jailed. It is unfortunate that BJP ranks don’t have pro-active high-profile advocates who could teach legal lessons to the abusers incl Mamata Banerjee, Rahul Gandhi, Kejriwal or the others for their slurs. It was appalling watching the minnows of the likes of Misa Bharti (Lallu’s daughter), Mahua Moitra, Sanjay Raut, Sanjay Singh etc casting false allegations and scandalous aspersions on the PM. It is unpalatable as to how BJP, NDA and PMO tolerated it sheepishly. Had the same been done on the PMs during Cong/UPA regime, Congress would have jailed or intimidated the culprits, but BJP let them get-away.

It must be understood that there is a very thin line between political freedom of Speech and crossing the red line of that freedom. In the context of a serving PM Modi, numerous many political figures have crossed the red line only because BJP has been sheepish and the law & order machineries both of States and the Union Govts, were indifferent, reluctant to act against the culprits. Punjab govt escaped for their inexcusable security breach when PM’s convoy was blocked on Firozpur flyover in Jan 2022.

Indulging in anti-India Activities. The political opponents of Modi govt are openly indulging in anti-India activities to which response of the law-enforcing agencies remain lukewarm at best. Greed of getting Muslim votes for coming to power has blinded many political parties from the threats arising from the followings:-

• Change in the religious demography of India with steep rise in Muslim population from 9.5% in 1951 to near 18% by now (incl illegal migrants). Further, religious Conversions by Muslim & Christian clerics are fueling anger among Hindus. 
• Both regional Muslim bodies and ‘vote-bank politicians’ are sheltering the illegal Bangladeshi & Rohingyas, assisting them to get Indian citizenship with fake IDs.
• Spread of radical Islamic groups in J&K, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, Rajasthan and Maharashtra are increasing.
• Radical Islamic groups thru’ PFI, SDPI and others are conspiring against Hindu.
• Many radical leaders speaking of another partition of India for Muslims.
• Growing newer indulgence like disregard of national flag, national anthem, national song etc on the pretext of being anti-Islamic are being ignored.
• Increasing Muslim attacks taking place during festivals like Ram Navmi, Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja etc, causing anger among Hindus.
• Muslims often come in mobs in support of foreign Islamic groups and their acts often indulging in riots and arson, vandalizing public & private properties.
• Many Muslim localities sheltering and helping foreign terrorists in ‘sleeper cells’.

Demoralizing Armed Forces with False allegations. Congress led opposition has repeatedly started demoralizing Armed forces in the recent years. We heard Rahul Gandhi saying ‘Indian Army is being beaten by the Chinese PLA in Tawang’ while the fact is opposite. He also laid false claim that Indian Army has lost huge territories to PLA in Ladakh, Sikkim and Arunachal. This has no authenticity. On the contrary, India lost huge territories to China before and during 1962 war. Congress has belittled Indian Armed Forces numerous times in past whether in carrying out Surgical strikes within Pakistan, criticizing and committing arson & violence against Agniveer Army recruitment scheme, calling Army chief as “Gali ka Gunda’ or something else. It all amounted to treason but both Army as well as govt showed their indifference in not booking the culprits.

Opposition parties driving wedge among communities. This was started by DMK leader Udaynidhi and A Raja by abusing Sanatan Dharma calling it diseases like Malaria, Dengue. Almost all factions of INDI-alliance are trying to divide Hindus thru’ various caste politics. Earlier Congress which traditionally ignored oppressed classes, denied implementation of Mandal Commission recommendations, had tried to make narrative that BJP is anti-OBC. This has been the character of present Congress graduated in “Lies & Dis-information”. There is hardly anyone in BJP or the govt to teach the liars some lessons. Both DMK leaders Udaynithi and Raja should have been jailed for hate speech BUT all involved parties incl Hindus, the union govt as well as the SC showed cold response. 

Union & State Govt’s Indifference

There is no doubt that new Home Minister Amit Shah could revoke article 370, brought-in CAA and also provided UAPA with more teeth but govt’s indifference towards firmly dealing with Shaheenbaghs, Farmers Protests, misleading citizen on Covid preventions and vaccines, inciting Muslims against CAA, creating mass agitation and public disorders when Sonia & Rahul Gandhi were summoned by ED/CBI. It was very unfortunate for the govt to have let Cong-led opposition parties/leaders to insinuate the Constitutional bodies like CBI/ED/CVC/CJI etc. Similarly, govt’s handling of Agniveer Protests, Mob-mindset of Muslims etc have been abysmal, showing their weakness by not being firm. Clearly, there were involvements of both opposition political parties as well anti-India forces from abroad. Govt might have received some pats on its back for being tolerant from the champions of democracy and Human Rights but surely, India paid dearly for not being firm.

The Bottom-lines

Home Minister Amit Shah is viewed by some as ironman of India that was conferred in past to Sardar Patel, the architect of Indian Union. There is no doubt that he brought some very important and landmark legislations under PM’s direction that numerous previous Home Ministers couldn’t dare to. However, his dealing of threats on the life of a sitting PM Modi and insinuation of the reputation of Indian PM as well as numerous nationwide disruptive and divisive mass-protests and lawlessness within the scope of Union Govt has been lackluster, indifferent and questionable. The numerous such happenings have made the opposition parties at the Centre believe that they can get away with any wrongdoing often with foreign hands in it. This has surely weakened the law & order situation in India. Today, everyone has a legitimate question against the law & order agencies of the Union govt as to how they could ignore the threats on the life of PM and insinuation of his high reputation.
